Roxie’s Christmas Eve

img_4540It’s me, Roxie. I’ve been left at home on Christmas Eve while the folks are out gallivanting. Lord knows where? Probably following the star to Bethlehem or Las Vegas.

Once again, I’m stuck here with ZuZu, the most boring cat in the world. She’s lying around while I’m watching the house.

Lazy, boring ZuZu
Lazy, boring ZuZu

It’s almost Christmas and so far, no one has even thought to ask me what I’d like from Santa. If anyone cared to ask, I’d tell them, “I’d like a night off, thank you very much!”

The snow people are back in full force. They won’t leave until the spring or maybe the summer. Mom’s a little lax when it comes down to packing stuff away. I’m waiting for the year she drops the ball and just leaves everything out – snowmen, Santas, pumpkins, skeletons, rabbits, chickens, turkeys.  It could happen.  She’s old.  She forgets. Her brain shrivels up a little more every day. I can hear it shrinking when I creep up on the pillow and bite her hair while she’s sleeping.

Speaking of creepy things – the faceless angels showed up with their posse today. It looks like Dad glued the heads back on most of them since our last encounter, but one just got in the way of my tail (which has a mind of its own), so, “Oooops!” Can I help it if they  can’t see to get out of the way fast enough?

Before Mom went out tonight, she told me to be good because Santa was coming. She left some treats out for him in the kitchen. He’s going to be really disappointed when I break the news that the Penguin drank all his eggnog. The good news is there are a few gingerbread crumbs still on the plate.

I think he’ll leave me something nice for a change because I’ve been extremely helpful this year. (Well I was good yesterday, anyway.) I helped Dad wrap some gifts and that’s got to count for something.

Oh, I think I hear the garage door opening, so it’s either Mom and Dad, Santa, or Burglars. If it’s Santa, maybe I can convince him to take ZuZu when he leaves. She’d make some kid a lovely Christmas surprise. I’ll even offer to wrap her up and put a bow on her. I can dream, can’t I?

Have a lovely Christmas and I hope all your Christmas dreams come true.

Your friend,

Roxie DammitIMG_8726

  1. I like the picture edits on this post! Since I’m home for the holidays, I’ve noticed my cat Tiger only acts friendly around dinner time. I took a picture of her pleading with her eyes at the dinner table and captioned it “Please sir could you spare a little Spaghetti? It’s Christmas Eve.” My friends found it hilarious. Cute story!

    1. Jess, You should definitely add that photo to a post. Bloggers seem to love dogs and cats. Roxie is very popular whenever she writes a post, although they can be quite sarcastic at times. But that is her perspective and probably Tiger’s, too. Have a wonderful day.

  2. Oh Roxie! I hope Santa’s feline naughty and nice list grades on a curve and you get lots of good kitty presents tomorrow. Merry Christmas to you and your humans…and that other cat too, just to be polite.

    1. You are too nice. The parents are now home and I’m hoping to smell some turkey around here soon. But, so far, nothing. I really hope they’re not planning to go out to eat today. That would really burn my tail!!!! Have a lovely Christmas and thanks for thinking of me today, since it appears no one else around here is. Love, Roxie D.

  4. Hi Roxie …. I’m agog – did you manage to fob ZuZu off on Santa? I hope so because, like me, you deserve to be the solitary Queen of the roost. I am spending Christmas with my Granny which would be great because she is REALLY old and drops food without noticing it but the bummer is that Brian (who looks after my mum’s eldest daughter and her husband) is staying too so that they can live it up in a dog-unfriendly cottage with mummy and the rest of her daughters. I ask you … what a nerve. I mean to say, staying with Granny is great but not when mummy is cooking a turkey down the road and all I get is some lousy giblets late in the evening when the aforementioned and slightly sozzled Granny lurches up the street to this house. I’m plotting my revenge and grateful for any tips from you. Your friend across the water, The Bean. X

    1. Oh Bean, sometimes people are so clueless!. I am glad that your Mummy is ensconced among her marvelous family, but they don’t seem to have their priorities straight at all. Much like around here. Hopefully, your New Year will bring better conditions and improved attitudes. Chin up, my friend. Love, Roxie D
PS Throwing up the gizzards on some treasured item always makes me feel I’ve sent a proper message. Just a thought.

    1. Hello, Mary. We did have a very nice holiday season here in RI. I know it is almost Boxing Day for you, and Roxie’s hoping you receive lots of boxes. She loves boxes! How is your book coming along?
I will have to check in on the latest chapters today. Winter is setting in and I’m hoping for many quiet hours by the fire getting the mystery ready for publishing for a book launch in the spring. Take care and stay warm. ☃️ Clare

      1. Hi Clare, Boxing Day is the day after Christmas – 26th December – so we’ve already passed it and heading for Hogmanay and New Year’s Day.
One of my New Year’s resolutions is get the book finished this year. I’d like it to be in May – dad’s birthday – but I think I should be less ambitious and make sure it will be 2017. Good luck with the work on your mystery – look forward to reading it. Pity I can’t make the book launch. All the best. Mary x

      2. That’s right. I had it mixed up with January 6, the Epiphany. My bad. I’m glad to hear about your book. I’ve been reading your poetry and the images of goat (and prisoner) heads flying over horse and riders among some of the other word-evoking visuals, has me enthralled and wanting to read more. You capture moments and leave deep impressions in the wake of your poetry. My poems tend to be very harsh and judgmental and best kept in drawers.

    2. Mary, I went to the “here” link to listen to your poetry and it is a dating site – DG. If Charley wants to stay in for New Years, I might just stop by again to check it out?????? For now, I’ll just read your poems, although it would have been a treat to hear your voice. Clare

      1. I’ve taken down the link to our dates, Clare! When I recorded the poems it was for an arts group called DG Community (the DG being Dumfries and Galloway, the region where I live) but they must have stopped using the domain and it has been comandeered by the dating group. Thought it best to remove it. I’m still looking to see if I have the recording anywhere else but suspect I only had a link to it.

  5. Hi Roxie!! So good to finally hear from you!! I’ve been a little worried!! I remember how those faceless angels, and the snowmen plotted against you last year! Good to see you standing up for yourself! ( I mean “sad” to see your tail “accidentally” was touched by an angel.) Make sure Mom reads that part. It was totally for her!!
The sun is warm, and the sand is hot down here!! And good news! CAts are allowed in my park, but not dogs! I didn’t know if I ever shared that bit of good news or not.
I heard Santa is allergic to eggnog anyway. You were just saving his life!!

    1. Dearest Lucy, Yes, it is unbelievably “sad” how often Darling Roxie’s tail is touched by angels and other breakable objects around the house. She is thinking seriously about your warm, sunny park. since she escaped once again and found a mound of ice on the patio to stick her nose on to. I had to rescue her once again and hopefully this will be a memory which will cause her to stay safely indoors for the rest of the winter. (Unless she gets shipped down to you in the interim!)
She’s been sticking her nose into everything lately; the eggnog, the quiche I put on the counter for brunch, ZuZu’s portion of food in her cat bowl, the bacon grease in the frying pan, my tuna sandwich…. The list is endless. And she has become much friskier and faster since the teeth extraction. I may be the one who needs your quiet, sunny park. I’m going to stop by to visit now and find out how your holidays were. Love, Ethel

  6. Dearest Roxie did you get anything from Father Christmas? I sure hope you did since you have been a perfect Angel all year! Here is a special treat for you to play for ZuZu “Lazy” next time she’s out like a light. There is a couple rules though. Get the speaker close to her and turn the VOLUME up high. https://youtu.be/dqM5L5JQseI

    1. Dearest Dennis. I will make much use of this treat, as ZuZu is always “out like a light” even when she’s awake. Thank you for all of the lovely music and background information you’ve given us through 2016. Your Angelic friend Roxie Dammit

    1. Dear Bernadette, so many people appreciate my positive attitude and the fact I share it so willingly! I’ve never asked for a penny and the few meager bits of cat treats doled out to me around here are always fully appreciated. I will do my best to keep you entertained in the New Year, even in my weakened, malnourished state. Your friend, Roxie D.

    1. C.J. I have been using many of the apped photos in my holiday blogs for Christmas cards. Anything with Roxie in it s a very popular card with family and friends. She’s extremely photogenic and loves having her picture taken. She thinks you have very good ideas and fantastic taste.

      1. Santas and trees are back in the cellar as of tonight – but snowmen and faceless angels will hang around for a bit longer. The manger will be the next to go after Jan 6 – then Roxie can sun herself in the picture window without knocking over a wise man.

      2. Yes, “Delusions” is an apt word in this case. The difference between now and the past is that women are actively involved in bringing him down. This has really stirred up an element most intelligent men realize should have been left alone. Women will be his downfall.

      1. Sorry, Robyn. The Buffoon is a total ass. There will be no growth on his part and someone (most likely someone of his followers he promised things to that he won’t make good on) will do him in. I just hope it’s a woman! You heard it here first.

      2. Robyn, Sadly, we are living in a country that has been bowing before the altar of stupidity for way too many years. These are the ones who believed his lies and voted for the buffoon. I refer to that segment of our population as “The Un-bright” and unfortunately for them, they’ll suffer the most under him before one of them does him in.

      3. No, it really isn’t just your perception. We are taking a turn to the right which will bring us over a cliff. Sort of like a defective GPS a driver blindly follows into a river. Then, the people with some intelligence will have to pick up the pieces and put it all to right and Make America Sane Again.

      4. He has been trying to get a hotel in Russia for years and there are quite a few of his friends who are doing business in the USSR. Lots of graft and corruption. And he’s a sucker for someone who makes him feel like a big man. Putin is a master at pulling his strings and making the buffoon think they’re friends. The Russians must drink their vodka and hoot about the latest dance step they’ve gotten him to do for them at dinner every night. In the end, it’s 2 bullies who are playing at the same game Hitler played. Just a matter of time before they both end up in their own little bunkers hiding out from the inevitable.

    1. I checked it out, Lucy. Betsy’s
Irish family sounded like a fun bunch. I grew up in an Irish family that was not so fun-loving. One where being an intelligent Irish girl was an impediment and therefore it needed to be constantly stressed, “Know your place.” We wouldn’t want an Irish woman to get above herself, now would we? Also, when one person in the family had a problem with another, then it meant taking sides – for years. Of course, I did not put these thoughts in a comment on Betsy D’s site. But her experiences were alien to me as an Irish girl who had to fight the “Irish Way” to get somewhere without support. I’ll read some more of her posts to compare her up-bringing to mine. Very interesting. Love, Ethel

      1. Lucy, You are a love! I think my upbringing was quite common in a way for those times- I’m much older than you, remember. But you are right when you say adversity can make us stronger and in my case very cynical. Stay sweet and bring me up to date on your newest “doings” when you get a chance to email. Love, Ethel.PS. I saw a special on Lucy last night and it was sad toward the end. She really did love Ricky, but he was quite the philanderer.
